The Distiller’s Darling é o segundo livro da série River Hill, mas pode ser lido como um standalone. Eu não li o primeiro livro da série e posso dizer que em nenhum momento me senti perdida na história e que mesmo os personagens secundários foram bem apresentados na história.
Iain é um irlandês que quer sair debaixo da saia dos pais e irmãos e criar sua própria carreira vendendo whiskey nos EUA e não está à procura de um relacionamento.
Naomi é uma artista conceituada que luta contra o preconceito da família em relação à sua carreira. E adivinha? Também não está à procura de um relacionamento.
Meses após um encontro casual, os dois se vêem morando na mesma cidade e incapazes de resistir à sua química, decidem explorar uma amizade colorida.
O livro é um romance contemporâneo bem gostosinho e rápido de ler, com personagens reais e familiares que você quer esganar ou bater a porta na cara!! A história se desenvolve de maneira crível e você torce por esse casal,tanto para eles enxergarem a realidade, quanto para eles vencerem em suas carreiras longe do olhar desaprovador de suas famílias.
Personagens secundários atraentes, deixando você com vontade de ler os futuros livros dessa série. E no meu caso, o livro anterior também.

It was my first book by both authors and I have to say it won’t be the last. It’s contemporary romance on its best. Characters that you love and characters that you love to hate (someone said parents? 😉 )
I love books when the main characters are fighting to not fall in love. It’s so good to see their surprise! It’s the second book in the series and I can’t wait to read more about River Hill.

“Thank you for doing this,” Iain said, the pad of his index finger tracing over the design Naomi had created for Whitman’s Revival. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d hear from you again. You kind of ghosted me.”

He glanced up in time to catch her looking away guiltily. “Yeah, about that—”

“I’m not asking you to explain yourself. I get it. We had some fun, and now it’s time to move on.”

Naomi’s eyes came back around, the guilt replaced with what Iain thought looked a whole lot like contemplation. “Funny you should mention that.”

“Funny how?”

“I was thinking,” she said, her finger swirling a pattern on the table that separated them. “You’re leaving in two months, and it would be a shame if we didn’t spend that time … hanging out.” Her eyes bored into his, as if daring him to misunderstand.

His lips quirked up into a smirk. “Why, Miss Klein, are you asking me to fuck you senseless until I board a plane back to Ireland?”

She tossed him a wicked smile full of promise. “You have to admit; we’re pretty damn good at it.”

“The best,” he agreed.

He felt his chest sawing in and out as his breathing became deeper and more labored. Iain couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt such heady anticipation. Oh, wait, yes, he could. It was that night in San Francisco when he and Naomi had practically run from that dive bar to his hotel. He’d been so ready for her that he’d ripped her dress off before the door to his room had locked behind them.

“So, what do you say, Brennan? You want to spend the next sixty days seeing how many orgasms we can give each other?”

That was all the invitation Iain needed. Abruptly, he stood, his chair scraping over the black-and-white-checked linoleum and then crashing to the floor. He stalked around the fifties-style diner table and fisted his hands in Naomi’s hair. He bent at the waist and let his lips hover scant centimeters from her parted ones. He could feel the warmth of her breath mingling with his own. “What do you say we get started on that now?”

She licked her lips. “Yes, let’s.”

Resenha – The Upside of Falling

A resenha de hoje é de um dos melhores livros que eu li esse ano. Ao mesmo tempo que eu amo livros angustiantes, eu fujo deles. As vezes eu acho que meu coração não vai aguentar, passo dias sonhando com o livro, e por isso em muitas épocas eu evito ler livros assim. Mas dessa vez eu não posso nem expressar o quão feliz eu estou de ter dado uma chance à esse livro. E pensar que só metade da história foi contada e precisamos esperar até julho para a segunda parte! Leia abaixo minha resenha, sinopse do livro e um trecho para você também se apaixonar!!

Uau!! Sem palavras. Essa foi a minha primeira reação ao terminar esse livro. Tenho que admitir, que nos últimos capítulos eu parei a leitura por uma semana. Eu sabia o que estava por vir (ou achava que sabia) e não estava preparada por toda a angústia que eu iria passar. Bobinha! Nem no meu mais cruel sonho eu poderia esperar para ter o meu coração tão despedaçado. Desde o início do livro eu desenvolvi uma relação de amor e ódio com o Colby e a Rory. Ao mesmo tempo que eu podia entender a maioria de suas ações, eu queria chacoalhá-los e fazê-los mudar de ideia. Se você gosta de leituras angustiantes, cenas reais e personagens apaixonantes, esse livro é para você. Mas esteja preparado, pois essa é só a primeira parte do dueto, então você terá que roer as unhas até o lançamento do próximo livro.

Wow. I think I’m speechless. I have just finished reading this book and my heart and my brain are a mess. Caused by this book. I have to admit that for the last months I have shied away from angsty reads because my poor heart couldn’t take it, but I couldn’t resist this one, and it was a really good choice of angsty read. I can’t say much without giving spoilers, but I have to say that I loved and hated Colby and Rory on the same levels. They made me swoon with them, fall love with them and want to throttle them. If you like great heroes, military romance, swoony couples and lots of angst, this book is for you. As it is part one of a duet, the story will only finish on book two.

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”

Naomi slowly opened one eye and examined the ceiling until she remembered where she was. Ah, yes. The gala. The hotel. The Irishman. Yum. She yawned and stretched, feeling the burn of muscles well-used. Iain’s elevator antics had been just the start of their fun last night.

Fortunately, his room was only on the fifth floor. The elevator’s security cameras might have burst into flames if they’d traveled any higher. They’d stumbled out of the compartment and down the hall in a haze of lust, and her dress and his pants had dropped on top of each other right inside the door to his room. And then … well.

Resenha – Burn Falls

A resenha de hoje é do livro Burn Falls da autora Kimberly Knight. Por coincidência, esse é o primeiro livro paranormal da autora e o primeiro livro dela que eu li.

 

Antes de mais nada, preciso dizer que eu adoro romance paranormal. É um dos meus preferidos. Kimberly Knight é uma autora nova para mim, mas com certeza esse não será o meu último livro dela, até mesmo porque eu espero que ela transforme esse standalone numa série e que vários personagens secundários tenham suas histórias contadas.
Draven me conquistou desde o início e eu adorei como a Kimberly manteve vários elementos da mitologia vivos. Você percebe no livro como a autora fez uma pesquisa extensa sobre o assunto e toda a preocupação dela em manter fatos históricos e datas críveis.
Demorei um pouco mais a gostar da Calla, mas do meio para o final do livro ela me conquistou com sua força de vontade e coragem em enfrentar tudo.
Burn Falls é um excelente livros para os amantes de paranormal, mas também funciona bem se você nunca leu esse gênero e gostaria de conhecer.
Eu só mudaria uma coisa no livro, e por isso ele é 4 estrelas e não 5 na minha opinião. Sem dar spoilers, eu achei que faltou emoção em todos os personagens que “descobriam” a existência de vampiros. Todos levaram tudo muito naturalmente para o meu gosto.

A Lot Like Home é um romance contemporâneo, onde a autora o descreve como “clean romance”, ou seja, nada de cenas quentes entre os lençóis.

Caleb e Havana formam um casal crível, com seus altos e baixos em suas vidas particulares e faíscas rolando soltas quando eles cedem à tentação de estarem juntos. Tenho que admitir que em muitos momentos eu quis sacudir a Havana até ela pegar no tranco e enxergar tudo que acontecia a sua volta e tudo que ela estava colocando a perder, mas em momento nenhum deixei de torcer pelo casal.

Caleb é nosso já famoso herói com cicatrizes de guerra, mas o personagem é desenvolvido de uma forma sutil e podemos entender todos seus problemas e torcer para que ele consiga transformar sua vida e junto com isso a vida de toda uma cidade.

Superstition Springs é um ponto quase invisível do mapa, mas uma cidade que você se apega desde a primeira descrição, com seus moradores cheios de charmes e manias, além de uma mágica no ar que faz você torcer por tudo e por todos.

Esse foi meu primeiro livro da Kat Cantrell, mas com certeza não será o último!! Sua escrita e seus personagens me cativaram e eu mal posso esperar pelos próximos livros dessa cidade em construção onde eu sou a mais nova torcedora pra que tudo funcione!

The gaze of the other half of Team Doritos hadn’t strayed from her face once, and being the sole focus of a man she’d had such a bone-deep response to was starting to make her a little breathless. Better to let that cat out of the bag pronto before it turned into something much bigger than it was.

With a bright smile, she offered her hand to him. “We’ve already met. All except for the exchange of names, that is.”

“You’ve already met?” Serenity’s gaze cut between them. “What on earth—”

“Long story,” he said smoothly, his voice as ragged and fascinating as it had been back at Mavis J’s. “I’m Caleb Hardy.”

When he clasped her hand, the buzz that she’d convinced herself had been imaginary arced between them, nearly frying all her circuits as well as it had the first time.

“Caleb,” she croaked and snatched her hand to her side in hopes of jump-starting her brain back to some functional level, which did not work apparently.

By the time she could speak again, the other three men had introduced themselves, and the best she had to show for it was the impression that the one with a full beard had the same last name as Caleb, so they were brothers or cousins, or it was a raging coincidence that she knew nothing about because a man had touched her.

Ridiculous.

Time to get control of this crazy train. She cleared her throat. “Nice to meet you all. If I might steal you away, Aunt Serenity? I have something I need to discuss—”

“Actually,” Caleb drawled, forcing her attention back to his face, where a day-old shadow of whiskers had darkened his jaw to the point of distraction. “You and I need to have a conversation first.”

“We, um… what?”

“Clear out, Elmer,” he instructed the dark-haired one next to him, who moved instantly, allowing Caleb to slide from the booth.

Before she could peep out question one, he hustled her away from the table with a gentle grip on her elbow. No one at the table stopped him. Or said a word. Including her aunt, which was typical. She’d always let Havana take care of herself along with everyone else.

Too shocked to protest, she let him lead her a good four steps before she remembered her voice did actually work. “What are you doing? I need to talk to Serenity, not you.”

“Oh, I disagree,” he countered, and somehow he’d gotten her feet to move again. “Best we do this outside.”

Outside? Where there were no witnesses? The man was former military, which explained why his arms were the size of a tree branch but not what he could possibly have to say to her privately.

Unless he’d mistaken pig wrangling as an expression of interest. Maybe that was considered courtship where he came from. Privacy meant loads of opportunity to flirt with a woman he’d decided to pursue. That stymied her so much she forgot to argue. Where was Damian when she needed him?

Back at the hotel, of course, because she’d stupidly told him she didn’t need him while she tried some different persuasion techniques with Serenity—she had to figure out why she wasn’t selling this deal, and having a discussion with the other half of Team Doritos wasn’t going to get her closer to that.

Fine. Caleb Hardy wanted to talk—so did she. So she could tell him that strong-arm tactics didn’t work on her. Once on the street, she jammed her hands down on her hips and whirled to face him. Holy cow, he was much closer than she’d realized and smelled like man and something clean, bright.

His eyes were brown. The dim light at Mavis J’s hadn’t revealed that, but out here in the sun, it was hard to miss the unusual almond color. Fascinated, she fell into them for a brief moment of insanity, recalling how he’d looked at her after helping her off the floor—as if she was special simply because she’d helped him chase a pig.

She liked helping, the rush of knowing she’s made someone’s life better. She liked it when people recognized her efforts even more. And he had. For a shining moment they’d had perfect cohesion. They could again; it was all right there in his eyes… She shuddered at the cocoon of awareness that had just formed between them and willed it away. Who cared what color the man’s eyes were?

She took a step back. But he followed her, not letting her get more than an inch or two away.

“Stop that,” she instructed throatily, mortified that he’d managed to affect her voice. “You’re crowding me.”

“Stop moving away,” he countered, his voice low.
