| Sabe aqueles autores que você sabe que vão te tirar da mesmice e colocar um sorriso no seu rosto? A Lauren é esse tipo de autor pra mim. Sei que ela não vai me decepcionar e que suas histórias vão sempre me fazer sorrir e sonhar! Todos os seus livros são bem desenvolvidos, com personagens complexos, desde os protagonistas até o personagem mais secundário de todos, você enxerga o carinho que ela colocou em seu desenvolvimento. Once Upon a Real Good Time é o mesmo. Sendo o primeiro livro de uma série, ele tem o papel de apresentar todos os personagens e o faz magistralmente, sem perder o foco no desenvolvimento da história central. Eu amei Campbell e Mackenzie desde a primeira página. Ambos na casa dos 30 anos, bem profissionalmente e com filhos, não temos mimimi ou indecisão do que querem da vida. Pelo contrário, sabem muito bem que seus filhos são suas prioridadades e fazem todos os sacrifícios por sua felicidade. Aliás, falando em crianças, eles são o ponto forte dessa série e maravilhosos! Posso gravar um vídeo cozinhando com a Sam? Mal posso esperar para ler os próximos dois livros e conhecer mais dos irmãos Heartbreakers. | Do you know that author you always read when you are on a book funk or need a pick me up? Lauren Blakely is this kind of author to me. I know it’ll not disappoint and will bring a smile to my face. Her books are always funny, emotional and with well developed characters all around, be it the main characters or a doorman, they are well thought and have depth. Once Upon a Real Good Time is no exception. Being a first in a new series, it does a great job in introducing a whole new world. I fell in love with Campbell and Mackenzie from the first page. Both in their 30’s it’s easy to relate and understand where they are coming from. It’s great to see there their kids are their first priority and how they do everything to make them happy. The kids were a great addition to the series and so real! I want to bake with Sam so much! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series and know more about the Heartbreakers brothers! |

I’m not checking him out.
I am solely focused on answering the next trivia question. The game emcee spouts it out for the four teams vying for the prize at The Grouchy Owl bar. The prize being bragging rights.
The hostess clears her throat, brings the mic to her mouth, and asks the question: “Which Las Vegas hotel did the bachelor party stay at—”
I’m perched forward in the chair whispering the answer to my teammate—Caesars, Caesars, Caesars—so we can write it on the answer slip before the hostess even finishes.
“—in the 2009 moving The Hangover?”
“So easy,” I say to Roxy as she smacks my palm and mouths ringer while filling in the answer.
I’m not a ringer.
I was simply fed a steady diet of Trivial Pursuit, trivia books, and endless facts about the world as a kid.
That’s all.
Also, I love trivia. Trivia helped me through some tough times as an adult, and by tough, I mean anxiety-ridden, sleepless, and stressful. That kind of tough.
As the hostess flips her cards to the next question, the guy on stage—the one I’m not at all checking out—adjusts the amp for his guitar. The Grouchy Owl has a little bit of everything—from darts, to pub quizzes, to pool, to live music from local bands. It’s like a Vegas hotel right here in the West Village. Big Ike doesn’t want patrons to leave, so she makes sure the entertainment options are plentiful.
And if that handsome hottie stays on the stage, I won’t want to head home for a long, long time. Except that I’ll have to. I’m Cinderella, and I turn into a pumpkin in minutes.
But for now…Hello, nice view.
As the guy turns the knob on the amp, his brown hair flops over his eyes. He flicks it off his forehead with a quick snap then runs his fingers down the strings on his guitar. Those fingers fly.
I bet they’d fly other places too.
